What other major city is there besides Boston?
^I doubt it. NYC is a higher COL market. Why would Boston make more?
I think NYC advisory seniors are like $90k - $100k. Would imagine Hartford is around 15% less.
Thanks! 😃
^this isn't a thing. Comparing salaries with a few coworkers isn't nearly enough data to say that salaries in Boston are higher than NYC. NYC salaries across the board are definitely higher. Maybe the people you're comparing too just happen to be on the low end.
Pay scales are not based on COL in public accounting.
Hartford
Boston makes slightly more than NYC for EY
Legit facts. Not sure why other than their market was a little more profitable. I'm classy and compare salaries with coworkers. Also, fewer people in Boston to spread the wealth across. Besides Boston itself isn't a lower COL than NYC
Also NYC COL is much higher than Boston. Not sure where you're getting your info from, but it's definitely not accurate.
^ expert on everything I see? I mentioned group performance which makes a difference in salary. You're acting like i said they make tens of thousands. Their starting salaries were higher than NYC. It maybe only 1-2k difference, but still higher.
^You're talking about starting salary for a specific group. I'm taking about salaries for the market overall. Nobody cares about starting salaries, they're all within the same ballpark. Look at Manager level salaries and above.
Also OP was talking about senior associate salaries in Hartford. Not entirely sure how new associate salaries in Boston are relevant to this conversation.
Not an expert on everything, but I know when I'm right. Do yourself a favor and google the COL index. Search Boston and NYC (Manhattan). You'll easily see that COL is much higher in Manhattan than Boston. That's not really something that's disputed. It's an objective fact.
SS1 - if my salary as an associate is 65k do you think a jump to 90k is reasonable after 1 yr? seems like a big jump, is that typical?
You said the jump to senior associate. Are you making the jump to senior after only 1 year? Doesn't it usually take 2-3 years?
I don't think that anyone with only 1 year experience is making $90K. I'd say a 8% - 12% raise is reasonable if top rated. That would bring you to the low 70's. Then a bump of 15% upon promotion to senior would bring you to around $80K. I think $80K is a more reasonable expectation for a first year senior associate in advisory.
thanks, that's what I was thinking
^All else equal they are. Obviously certain service lines make more than others, but within a service line, salaries will be higher in higher COL areas.
