I keep to my morals and stand my ground BUT I don’t preach to others with different morals. If someone wants me to do something I’m not comfortable with, I simply say as much in a non confrontational way. (If the whole workplace was toxic, I’d look for another job and document these interactions.)
I’m no philosopher or theologian so I don’t pretend my morals are any better than anyone else’s. However, it’s important to me that I sleep at night 😂.
My post was rather meant to be on a private matter. Luckily, I have never faced a dramatic moral conflict at any employer I have had so far. But I am sure that can happen as well.
I think our morals can change over time with our beliefs. Morals are just what we see as right or wrong. Sometimes, things are grey rather than black and white. Having a clear conscience is the goal though
Maintaining high morals and standards for yourself and those around you is a virtue that many in the western world have abandoned and forgotten. In my own life I see nothing wrong with telling people my exact thoughts on what is right or wrong with what they are doing, and why I will or will not join in.
My most recent example is when I was training for my current job and I was told to lie to customers on the phone to sell. I said no and ever since then I have been poked fun at for not wanting to lie. Even so far as being told by a director that if “you’re uncomfortable with the moral gray area of sales then it’s not for you”.
I don’t have big morals. It would considerably low. The normal approach for people who have really high morals. Is to abandon, the person who dishonor or go against yours morals.
Normally, they prefer to be associated with people with similar beliefs.
