What’s one of your funny dumb realizations as a child? When I heard the term “American accent” I was like what do you mean? This is normal everyone else has an accent….slow beginning to the realization of privilege too but let’s keep it light 🙂

I used to think if it rained where I was, it rained everywhere… up until like 8, so way past the age where I knew world was big and there were desserts and the Arctic, etc. I still remember the day I realized how stupid that was.

I’m a native Washingtonian and when I was around five years old, I thought the D.C. mayor was actually two people: Mary and Barry (AKA, “Marion Barry”). Clearly, I was following the crack-smoking story pretty closely (and didn’t know WTF crack was either). 😂

Hi

My mom is Asian and it wasn’t until I was in college that I realized she has an “Asian accent”. A kid said “her accent isn’t that bad” and I was like “what accent?” Lol

I generally have a blind spot for mild Asian accents bc to me they sound as American as any other accent!

I called New York “You Nork” for a really, really long time. Just couldn’t hear how it was wrong, I guess.

I thought English was the easiest language to learn because I spoke it 🤦‍♀️

When I was a kid, I thought people disappeared when I couldn't see them. I thought when we called relatives that lived in other states, the popped into existence just because we called. I was under 5.

Working on a divorce where the father is claiming that he is unemployed because of the previous administration’s actions with DACA (he was brought to the States as a child). I know that the memo rescinding DACA was ultimately vacated—but OC is unsure whether this would count as voluntary unemployment for child support purposes. I believe it does as the application period to renew DACA benefits was reopened in 2020. Thoughts?
