CAIA vs CFA?
Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

The big difference is learning to manage an entire client account versus managing single engagements. That includes being the primary point of contact for the client on anything they need within your subject matter (and usually even outside your area by knowing who else to pull in and when). You add value by proactively helping the client solve their problems which includes spotting issues / opportunities when they have business changes and / or when there’s legislative type changes. You can’t really just wait for the client to come to you with items; you have to create natural touch points and create discussions by keeping them up to date on new stuff and being kept up to date by them on their facts. As you progress deeper in the SM role, you’ll want to do that on as many clients as you can handle to expand your book of business.
