I've been contacted by a recruiter from PwC about roles in their new "PwC Cloud Practice".
Does anyone have any info on this new practice and how it differs to mainline PwC?

Sales engineer could work too, especially if you can find a position at a company whose software you are already familiar with.
BDR is best bet. What do you make now?

There is no shortcut to AE, i believe it all depends on company and product. I have seen some people working as BDR for 3-4 years while some became AE in less than a year. Try looking for a growing company who Is hiring a lot, jump in as BDR , over achieve your target . Also take initiative talk to AE In company and ask them if you can shadow them for 1 - 2 meetings
+1 on the SE angle. Business focused software you are extremely familiar with or have worked on in industry could be your way in somewhere. Short of the wild situation in tech right now, there are usually good openings for SE roles and more companies are adding a more entry level option, like an associate level.
Could also make the transition to customer success and then to SE or sales. CSMs need a focus on account management, metrics, strong comms, and exceptional customer service.
I would recommend going for the SDR/BDR as OSL1 recommends. Get the basics right, prove yourself in the role and grow from there. Might not take long if you find a company that's growing fast. Where are you looking (geographically)?
