I used to work at a company that had a much larger sister company, of which we were sort of a spinoff. One time our HR lady - who also looked over this other company - was complaining about her next meeting and I asked what it was. I think she only told me because she knew I didn’t know anyone at the other company and would never figure it out who it was (she didn’t use their names).
This guy had been cheating on his girlfriend, but she had friends at his company, so word got around and she found out. The girlfriend demanded that he never speak to the other woman again if they were going to stay together. This posed a problem since they were on the same team and had to work together every day…
So the guy goes to his boss and is like “hey, I want to be moved to this other team” - but provided no explanation as to why why. The boss was basically like “that’s not how this works - *I* decide what you work on.” The HR lady somehow knew the full story already. (This makes sense because she was very chummy and did not feel like HR - like if you’re out at happy hour and she’s trying to set up a booty call she’ll say so haha. I can see why people would tell her secrets.) So the HR lady was meeting with this guy to try and coax him into admitting the real reason he wanted to move teams.
I overheard my manager talking to another manager about “setting up” my peer for a promotion in 6 months by siphoning high visibility slam dunk projects in their direction.
The peer and the manager were good friends outside of work.
I’ve got all of y’all beat. I worked directly for the CEO for over 25 years. He blatantly asked me to approach his Director of Operations to have a love affair with him. His key takeaways were that he’d love her better than her husband bc her husband is gay and has no attraction towards her whatsoever, he told me that he’d be a much better lover in bed, with them being together they can sell part of the business and build one just for themselves, I knew at that time that my job was on the line so we (me and her) had secret conversations for a whole week. She knew he was in love with her and she has to keep playing the game with him or she will lose her job. So all in all she told him that she was in a binding contract with her husband and she can’t break that bc she’s not a US citizen. She has to stay with her husband. And I lost my job and to add more sweetener to the cream, his son is in charge of the HR Department and bc the little girl that works for him won’t give him the time of day he won’t ever allow her to succeed. Mind you now that he’s in his real early 20’s and so is his assistant. She has a bachelor degree and makes 20 bucks an hour and he still doesn’t have a degree and 3 figures yearly. The whole company is scared shitless bc there’s no one to turn to. That is a devastating situation. No one will help.
I knew what you meant 😆 I still saw $100,000 in my head! Anyway I'm so sorry to hear about the awful situation you guys are in. That's terrible and sounds really stressful. It sounds like you may have a case for an employment lawyer if you were fired because you refused to participate in this weird non-work related situation. Can the others involved discretely look for another job outside this company or try to get transferred to another department?
Well, I sustained an injury, but I was initially hurt by his words,
You know what it’s like to be hurt, don’t you? And I hate that.
A partner (married with college age kids) overseeing my department was in a relationship with an accountant in my department. Everyone knew, but no one bothered to tell me.

One of my very first corporate jobs there was a situation where a janitorial staff came into the office suite to do their usual duties but on a weekend instead of in the evenings and found two managers (married male manager and female who was single but I think she had a fiance') from different areas of the business who usually never interact having sex on the big boardroom table in the main conference room just going for it and yeah that was probably the craziest thing I heard of. I believe he ended up getting terminated because it was determined he was kind of forcing her into it. She didn't get let go but she quietly left some months later on her own.
