Which properties are good for a trip to Hawaii? Both Marriott and Hyatt. This will be our first time, and know absolutely nothing about the island

Grand Hyatt Kauai is one of my favorite hotels

likeuplifting

Ah. My mistake. Perhaps there are other options within a brand that you should consider.

Op I've been to Hawaii 8+ times and to every island. What are you wanting to do? Eat cheeseburgers and sit by the pool and never leave the resort? Go to Maui or save yourself the money and go to Jamaica. Explore the outdoors and more Hawaiian culture? Go to Kauai. It has the napali coast, Waimea canyon, Kalalau trail, etc. Do you want luxury shopping and restaurants? Go stay downtown Waikiki

My family rents a house on Kauai next to the Grand Hyatt near Poipu beach so we can use the restaurants and bars by walking to the grand Hyatt.

Westin Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea are both nice on the big island

like

Mauna Kea is the best Marriott deal in HI right now IMO - phenomenal beach and property overall, updated rooms, full breakfast benefit if you have platinum or higher and no BS resort fee. Other nice properties are: RC Kapalua, Marriott Wailea, and Westin Hapuna (sister hotel of the Mauna Kea but same price and not as good beach). However the RC and Marriott on Maui both have resort fees and either no (RC) or terrible (Marriott) breakfast benefit. Ritz also doesn’t have a great beach.

From what I’ve heard, the Laylow isn’t great (not sure about others on Oahu) and Marriott properties on Kauai are largely more family-focused.

But for first time you should also think about what you want to do before selecting an island. For example Oahu and Maui are much busier than Kona.

Just my wife and I, no kids

Which island specifically?

Which islands are you going to?

Andaz Maui if you got no kids with you

We just did Hawai’i over x-mas & NYE.
Sheraton Maui on Kaanapali
Westin Hapuna in Big Island
The Laylow - Waikiki Oahu

Westin was our favorite, pictures didn’t look as great as the Maui one, but it was definitely a better resort.

Maui was nice but I might try a different resort. Amazing beach, good food, good walk in snorkeling, resort was nice not great.

The Laylow was just off the beach in Waikiki, and a hotel vs. a resort, but we really liked the relax vibe & it’s a nice quite spot.

Hope that helps.

If you’re going to HNL, I second the lay low. Close to many restaurants and the water, rooms are great, if I recall correctly all have balconies. And the toiletries smell amazing.

Sheraton kaanapali on Maui was great. If you REALLY want a treat, the Waldorf Astoria in Wailea was out of this world.
If going to Oahu, there are several nice ones there. The Hilton Hawaiian village is huge and very active if you want a lot to do. But Waikiki is very VERY big city feel and not a real Hawaiian experience so be warned. May as well be in NYC. I hate it. So if you are looking for relaxed, Maui or Kauai are where it’s at.

The big island is pretty great as well. Not as developed, but some of the best beaches there on the east side of the island. We stayed at the Hilton which is huge but very fun. We have mostly been to Hawaii with kids so not sure about the more romantic spots other than the st Regis in Kauai. From what I heard Maui might be a more couples style destination?

Recently visited Honolulu and Maui on my Marriott points, did the Laylow in Honolulu, Wailea Beach Resort in Maui and back for 1 night at the Ritz in Honolulu.

Loved the laid back vibe and room at the Laylow, and excellent breakfast if you take advantage of the elite credits and breakfast amenity together.

Wailea is the place to be in Maui, warmest part of the island and very close to the water. Starbucks credit for breakfast amenity is kinda lame but whatever. Lots of point redeemers at that resort so it’s understandable.

The Ritz room was incredible, I got upgraded to a condo-like suite. The Ritz amenities were a bit of a let down surprisingly, but very much worth the points if you can get an upgrade on Titanium or Ambassador.

This thread is making me think about a trip. Anyone been to that Marriott Kauai?

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Does Centurion Lounge access justify the Amex Platinum fee? 80% of foreseeable travel will be through IAH, DFW, and LAS.

Was told I had to leave a Marriott hotel last night mid stay due to a fire alarm compliance issue. They credited 6k points and gave me a room at a nearby Marriott property for the night. Con’t...

My company is paying for one credit card. I'm leaning towards Amex Platinum given the large 100k sign up bonus at the moment (which I'll be able to hit). People lean towards CSR because of the 3x on dining but I don't eat out that much (and additional perks, but I prefer the Amex for that).

Should I grab the Amex Plat and not think twice?? Thanks!!
