Maybe because "life in HR" doesn't require that. All that nonsense is a function of your company's culture, not our profession. The only time I ever had to do those things was when there was a genuine crisis, or the few times our security company couldn't reach the first three people on their call list when our alarm went off at 2 in the morning.
And you CAN get away from the office. I'm guessing much of what you're experiencing is self-inflicted. Set boundaries!
Yeah, been there done that. It’s a product of the company, the culture and management. It is not the lived experience of many HR professionals.
However, it does happen in the “more with less” kind of companies where HR is seen as an administrator - but is also an: events planner, councillor, recruiter, culture manager, coach, performance management specialist, benefits admin, on/off-boarding specialist and any other role they wish to add to the scope of HR.
You need to ask for another team member now, or a boat load more money. Because it’s unsustainable long term, if change isn’t coming - I recommend finding another place to work.
Your personal time, sanity and work-life balance are not worth giving up for it.
I feel this. HR can quietly become all consuming if boundaries are not there. I have had to remind myself that being constantly available is not the same as being effective.
Boundaries should be set beforehand. That's my point.
