Would you / did you take your husbands name? Why or why not?

I didn't only because I made a name for myself and am well-known by my family given name. If I ever step down from my role or retire, I probably would, but for now I want to keep my own.

like

No. Just to keep things simple.

like

No. It’s not a thing in either of our cultures (Spain and China).

like

No, much to my husband's chagrin.
I am who I am, always have been and always will be ☺️
My name hints to aspects of my identity, and although i do believe that can sometimes be used as a discrimination tool, I wouldn't change it for the benefit of fitting in.
If we have kids, I'd be happy for them to take his name

like

I did take his name but it was almost a year before I filed the paper work and actually did it. I thought about keeping my name (my dad had died and was an only son, and only had daughters so I would be the last person with my last name). But I am somewhat traditional and it just felt right to me to take his name.

However, I did continue using my maiden name in the professional setting I was in (although when I changed jobs I did start using my married name).

like

I don’t have a LinkedIn. I was teaching at a university and was already known by my maiden name and it was my email, etc. When I switched jobs I used my ‘new’ name for everything. If they are smart, LinkedIn would have a way for you to put your maiden name somewhere (for example: ‘First Last (Maiden)’) but I don’t use it so I don’t know if they have that option.

Never changed it. Married 31 years.

Does having kids change this answer?

Potential kids was part of my decision process but not the only factor. I probably would have leaned a little more towards keeping my name if I knew for sure we didn’t want kids, but honestly not sure what my final decision would have been.

No, didn’t change it. My last name is my last name. Just because I get married doesn’t mean I have to change it!

Has anyone been through a situation that you were in a terrible relationship ( stress, anger, fights, swears, physical abuse, ego clashes) and how did you resolve it? Some might have worked on and stayed in the relationship and some might have broken up. I am looking for answers from both sides. How did you stay/work on it and how did you break up and move on? Me and my partner have strong feelings for eachother and are almost inseparable despite going through so much.

I give massive kudos to all the parents out there juggling work and home life. But it’s starting to feel like I pulled the short stick by not having a kid. Really struggling to pick up all of the slack from all of the colleagues that do have kids and feel like the expectation is that parents should turn off while the rest are working from 7am - 2am everyday to make up for it.

At my uncles wedding in Madrid I remember lying down on the grass in the courtyard after their first dance and crying, my Dad came and saw me, laid down in his suit beside me and asked what was wrong.

“I know my boyfriend wouldn’t dance with me like that at our wedding”

And we just lay there as I cried, and then got up. Had a drink.

Said boyfriend left years ago, and now I have a wonderful man who just asked me what type of dance lessons I want for our wedding next year.

Don’t give up.

What do you all do to make non-professional / personal connections? Particularly with the Coronavirus, and being in domestic relations, I wake up, go to work, work out, go home. So outside of law, my interactions with people are only at the gym given that my area is draining— particularly at the moment. Probably a good thing for now; but if we take coronavirus out of the equation, I’m interested what others in the community do to develop personal connections.

Has anyone actually found love at work? My best friend started at a new company 6 months ago and she just took an offer somewhere else because she and her senior manager fell for each other. After 6 months she knew it was worth leaving her job for! I've been working at the same place for three years and I went on one date with a guy who didn't even work with me he just worked in the building. What am I doing wrong.

Girlfriend of 3 years cheated on me right before we were supposed to leave the state and move in together. We broke up about 4 months ago. I couldn’t demonize her, so I’m still struggling with processing it and idk what to do. I’ve been looking into therapy, but I can only do online which leaves me hesitant. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would love to get into provider credentialing, but all employers I've looked at want at least 3 years of experience.
