Not if the “role isn’t a good fit”. Moving to a new city is tough enough without the job you’re moving for not being right.
This sounds like an awful idea, TBH
Only for w+k.
Small City means if the bad fit is a flop, you need to relocate. Big City means you can jump to a better fit after a year or two.
I would not recommend it as you have outlined. I don’t think moving to a new city makes much of a difference here. Sounds like a step back in your career and like you already know it’s not the right fit. Would you be moving to a better market? Ex. NYC from Dallas. Also if you are in Account Management I’m not sure how important a big company is for that career track. More the size of the clients you manage.
Chicago from Dallas. From Advertising to Sales. Definitely not worth for me to make the move. But the company that offered the sales position is a pretty big deal!
Would only do this if it was a dream role + dream company.
I would do this, as long as I was not committed to the new agency for longer than a year. I can deal with being at an agency in a role I have had before or don’t love for a year. Must be a good city in a good market where I can find a better opportunity. Plus getting the agency on your resume (if great) can help open more doors.
