......am I missing something? Unless it'd require a relocation or a drastic lifestyle shift, what reasons could you have for not taking this opportunity?
Go for it. That’s a leap that will help you. There is no downside. Just invest lot of time when you join to research and learn. You will level. I got promoted 2 years ahead of my peers and had similar fears but everyone else I worked with was more confident that I was in suceeding. Your team will help you if you pull your weight too
Don’t think like that. I became a manager a PE portco with only 3 years of big four experience mainly because the role opened after I joined and I took the initiative to step up
Going great. Though I’m looking to lateral somewhere since my company went back to the office full time lol
Well, I’ve always kind of been if there is no risk no reward type of person, but I don’t have kids or family so if I fall flat of my face and end up without a job, I’m only hurting me so if you have people debt count on your paycheck, I could see why it made a little more nerve-racking, but I would do it
I just accepted a job with a 40% increase in pay on Friday.
So yes.
I get the economy is currently not fun but that extra pay means a LOT. just banking that increase will make me feel more secure than my current job
I left this firm with nothing in hand. Got an offer in a week
Why wouldn’t you?
I’ve done this before I don’t regret it but I left on good terms and I’m sure my old firm would hire me back
Did it went well?
Yes!
100% yes
I would take that deal. If you are feeling like you aren’t ready for it then try to figure out what is the biggest thing and work on it. Getting offers like that are few and far between so I would definitely consider it seriously. You get it and then figure it out as you go just like everyone else needs to. Do you feel like you’ll not be setting yourself up for success?
I so feel there’s the chance for me to underperform. But also feel I got a chance if I give it my best and dedicate extra hours to learn
I think everyone has already said it in the comments but yes this is an obvious one. Take the role, don't doubt yourself. You'll learn what you need to learn as you take on more responsibility
Humble brag?
if you aren't ready for the title jump that would be the only reason. i have seen people that move for a title because they wanted it but weren't ready for the role. It doesnt end well. But only you or someone that knows you, will know that answer.
Not 100% but feel like if I don’t make the jump I will be stuck and unmotivated
Yup. No brainer.
To add something to the conversation/question I don't feel has been fully voiced that I am having similar questions on, the market is very volatile. If it suddenly free falls, the newest people are typically the first to be cut. All the people saying go for it/no downside, how are you factoring this in? What's the likelihood? Have you had experiences that show this fear is either reasonable or unfounded?
