I'd rather earn a living wage...
I would definitely be open to taking a greeter job for minimum wage, depending on the particular workplace. I did one in the past for my local grocery store and I found it quite enjoyable. It was a good way to meet people and make a bit of extra money on the side. However, if I had the opportunity I would likely prefer to do something more challenging for a better wage.
No, minimum wage pays for nothing. Maybe a single person can make something like that work, but I don't see that covering a car, housing, and food. And there are a lot more expenses than that. Greeter doesn't even really seem like an easy job. I see the old guys sitting in the scooters, but the younger people are just standing there the whole time.
As a gen X worker, I would cheerfully trade my stress-packed career for a lower paid easier job. I'm hoping that within a few years, I'll be able to afford to do that. The problem is that many lower-paying jobs are actually even more stressful.
At this point in my life, I would take an easy/no overtime/no stress job for minimum wage than deal with hard work for more money. My back is messed up, I'll be happy if I never have to work another hour of overtime ever again, and I value my time more than money these days.
