In the Bay Area. How hard is it to go from an individual contributor role to managerial? No upward mobility at current firm. Wondering if I should move to another individual contributor role at a larger tech company (FAANG) which might open up more opportunities? NEW TECHNOLOGY ALERT! I just received a Beta link to try out an upcoming feature in Pipedrive. They added the ability to prospect from their Leads tab digitally. You put in the search criteria, and their search engine will go out and pull in contacts or companies based on your search. From there, you can add the lead to your leads section. The person-based leads I have found thus far have had an email address, phone numbers, and LinkedIn links. Give it a look if you can. It is pretty neat.

Just venting. I’m tech, and many employees (like 85%) think that being a jerk is a badge of honor and their EQ is like at high school level, so talking to them about diversity issues is like banging head against the wall. They insist that any diversity hire is costing a job to another person with PhD. On top of it, another fancy thing to do in tech is to hate HR. So the conversations usually are like “Oh, you’re in HR, I understand now why you have such a stupid opinion”.

Hey guys, I am a self taught programmer and I love it. I do not know the competitive programming concepts and tricks which you find at alert code etc. I’m right now leading a dev team with one of FAANG as clients, where I also code daily. I am guessing that the TPM role is most suited to my profile. I have 2 quest - 1) How do I up my “manager” game and 2) Is TPM the correct role if I want to stay technical and not lose that touch. How do you as the attorney balance your advice with your client’s wishes? Meaning when what the client wants is not, in your opinion, in their best interest, when they want to settle for less “to be done,” or pay more “to get him out of the house,” when do you stop pushing back and give in?
