Depends on your team project and context. For example i at least sleep thru 2 to 3 standups or meetings (internal and client facing) every quarter and still get promoted + fat raise. But it’s also cuz I hustle for everything else and output stuff clients will shell out money for.
Know how valuable you are to the boss that makes decisions and you’ll find that you can get the pulse of where the boundary is pretty quickly
I’m still at the very beginning of my career, which is something I take into consideration when talking about this. I should be able to at least show up. I have been a good performer and everyone says they love working with me. But if I can’t do the simplest thing and show up to a standup meeting with my team, that makes my manager very worried. They said it’s not a good look and to make sure it never happens again. She’s already given me a few passes, so I don’t wanna disappoint them.
Use your apple watch! It shakes so that the movement wakes you up! That has been helpful for me. I also am one of those people that will sleep through sound alarms - literally set it for like every 15 minutes.
The other advice I have is taking a shower before bed, you feel more refreshed and somehow I am able to wake up easier the next day on nights that I do that.
I just bought the sonic bomb alarm clock. It shakes the whole bed and is extra loud. Idc how annoying it is, I just need it to wake me up. This can’t happen again.
Dude, in the nicest way possible, you need to grow up.
@kpmg1 take a nap, then fire the missles!!
Such a bad look. Get it together.
That first message almost knocked me out 😂, but yeah I’m gonna make sure it never happens again.

Once is OK. Three is not. Do your job.
Chief
Is already has, at least a little. NEVER do it again and you’re OK.

From a perception standpoint, once is an aberration but not that concerning in and of itself. Twice is a red flag.
Three times shows a lack of maturity and responsibility and, frankly, I'd roll you off after that regardless of your performance.
In this industry, perception is often reality and your perception is unfortunately one of immaturity and unreliability.
Can you actually share more re: how sleeping through your meeting the first two times were family related?
Sleep early
I am a very heavy sleeper. I sleep early and set my alarms but sometimes i just sleep thru them :/. Need one of those loud shaking alarm clocks.

This is a really bad look. Your boss might be chill because he’s written you off.
Adjusting to work life can be hard but you have to make some real changes here asap.
If you’re seriously going to bed early (and not from passing out drunk/high) and still cannot make up from multiple alarms, maybe go talk to a doctor.
Be thankful you’re not traveling:
1. If you missed your flight and were late to client multiple weeks would be a really bad look
2. I’ve sometimes had to take 6-7 am flights getting up at 4 something so not a lot of sympathy for not making an 830
I did a year of 5:45AM flights - with a connection so I could get to my client site by 9:30AM for a year when I was starting….
The new post COVID kids have it made. Frankly I’d roll you after the second offense here. You can’t sleep through meetings - cmon man…
Sounds like the kind of self sabotage that could become very problematic. I would take a deep look at the cause and effect. Are you staying up late doom scrolling? What does your diet and exercise look like? What are you hiding from in your own mind that you should face? (All rhetorical, for you to explore and get in front of before you get fired or worse)
What time are you getting to bed? To sleep?
Do you have addiction issues that need to be fixed?
Sleeping through 8AM meetings is lazy-teenager vibes.
Couple of things - 8:30 is not early (for an adult). Next, never ever tell someone you slept in because their perception of you is then set in stone. Especially with that not being early.

OP…. Really loud alarm and put it on the other side of the room (don’t disturb neighbors though).
Did the same thing until I finally bought a manual alarm clock that I put across the room. Never rely on your phone for your alarm, to many potential errors (phone dying from not being plugged in being main one)

Can't be missing meetings bro.
Thousands of people lining up for your job. Do whatever it takes to get yourself right. Lot of people don’t learn until they get fired.
That’s not good. If you were on my team, I would roll you off. I did put someone an a PIP for being habitually late to the client, so yes, sleeping through three meetings that were scheduled for a reasonable time is enough to get you rolled off of my project. I’d have to talk with HR to see if you could be terminated for this, but that behavior would definitely damage my trust in you.
Talk to your boss to move early meetings out or negotiate to not invite you to anything before 9 AM. Is that reasonable time chief?
No, that’s not reasonable. Telling your boss that work cannot get done before 9 am is a great way to get yourself fired.
