I’m a woman. And I’ve refused. Explaining that there’s a gender pay gap and so I’m at a disadvantage if I need to furnish my past pay
Do you believe that you were underpaid at your last position because you are a woman? In other words, but for your gender you would not have been underpaid?
I wonder if pointing exclusively at gender is an easy way out where there may have been many other factors at play as well.
They typically ask. You can always say no. Haven’t been told yet that the recruiter couldn’t still help me. I typically am honest about it because I don’t want them wasting my time with low paying “opportunities"
I always tried to steer it as I’m looking for positions paying X. In case you’re getting underpaid at your prior position they’re not locked on your current to make a lower offer than you could have gotten
Illegal now in NY
Yes. See the question under are headhunters exempt. https://www1.nyc.gov/site/cchr/media/salary-history-frequently-asked-questions.page
Goldman Sachs asks you to provide your pay for the past three years and says if I ask you to provide pay stubs or W2, would you be able to provide it
What positions are you referring to? I got their offer really quickly and they respond timely. The 4 people interviewed me were professional and personable. But their pay sucks
It’s normal
Agree with TM1 here. If the recruiter knows the position only pays in a certain range and I already make more than that and recruiter knows I won’t be willing to take less pay then let’s not waste time on applying for that position.
Yes I’ve been asked this. Often they don’t want to end up in a bidding war with your old firm.
