I am reaching out to you all and am looking forward to break into Investment Banking from Consulting. Applied to Goldman Sachs via a referral but my resume is stuck after HireVue. Talked to the VO who referred me and he said Goldman doesn’t hire in Q4. If that’s true and still need to be in GS, can someone forward my resume directly to the team? Their career portal sucks. TIA Goldman Sachs PS: I promise a dinner in a dance place in NY after I get hired as a sign of my gratitude 🙈

Absolutely especially because you are so new in your career. Make the move now, it’s harder the further you get into it without having to take a pay cut.
Lol please help me, could you message me to discuss further?
I’m making the pivot right now, went to ad school and built a book, updating my portfolio now and will start reaching out to agencies for creative positions, it’s possible, good luck!!
It’s possible, and easiest at either more junior or more senior levels (I tried to move midlevel accounts -> strategy and was told I’d need to go back to entry level salary / vacation etc so ultimately just stayed in accounts).
At a junior level, you might expect a lateral move or small pay reduction. At a senior level the moves tend to be more accounts->strategy than accounts->creative.
People I’ve seen move accounts -> creative usually have mentors in the creative department, opt into some nonprofit briefs and ad competitions, and can make the move without going back to school.
The competitions are things like Young Lions, the agency will usually pay for entry fees even if you’re not in creative.
I too am working on a transition from account to strategy at the aae level.
Yes, for sure, I’ve seen moves to all roles. One of the best writers I know was an account person.
As others have said, easier earlier. A creative mentor would be someone in your creative department you feel like you can talk to about making the change.
Often times, some level of grad / trade school is helpful. Miami Ad School seems a popular choice.
Hey all! I recently moved to Grand Rapids from Los Angeles, and am a former account supervisor for RPA. I would love to get into an agency in town. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Thanks so much, Chris.
