I also wouldn't believe everything you read... if you were expecting promo and were laid off, there was definitely some other disconnect. PwC isn't the ruthless picture some people are trying to paint. Though obviously not the best year...
Oh okay. Were they given notice? All the people at ACN that I know we're let go, got 4 weeks notice. Basically they had 4 weeks to find a chargeable role.
PWC 1, I agree. It hasn't been the best year. I would think you wouldn't let go of your best performers, Just going off what is posted on FB. But also, don't think many would lie about expecting a promo, then being let go. Seeing some of the high utilization rates and other factors considered , it makes one wonder.
Oh I'm totally not saying that someone who was let go was lying about expecting to be promoted, my point was more that I think perhaps the person thought more highly of his or her performance than may have been reality -- and I admit this is all speculation and I have no idea about this person or situation... I've just been at the firm a while, and though there are one off partners at any firm that are perhaps not truthful, I have a hard time thinking a partner miscommunicated that and gave green light before CRT (many people put themselves up for promo, but it's to be considered). Again, I don't know the details, maybe I'm wrong, but I just am not believing a lot of these posts...
I also know many people who have had very high utilization, but had performance issues (again not stirring the pot, it was a tough year!) It's a combination of many variables..
Just talking about my team, no one that was cut raised any eyebrows. However, that is not true to all teams. There were some surprises in other verticals
Many of those laid off from Deloitte were told they were 'on track for promotion' at Midyear reviews...
This doesn't happen at Deloitte. You don't get laid off in your year end meeting. It's a separate and distinct conversation.
Agree with D1. While the way Deloitte handled it was shitty, it was prior to YE conversations.
The firm wouldn't get rid of their best talent (people who are supposed to be getting promoted are not those who will be let go)
PWC 1, ahh that makes sense.
At Deloitte, most people that I know were on track at mid year and had high utilization and PE ratings. My friend was told, in one of the more candid HR conversations, that in any other year it would have been different. I had friends planning for their promotions until one day they randomly had "Meeting with Partner X" put on their calendars.
