Any female bosses here gifted or other types of neurodiverse? How do you all deal with the mansplaining in the workplace to build relationships with other leaders?

Visually impaired boss lady here. Was in gifted and talented in school and unofficially diagnosed as potentially on the spectrum.

I let them explain if it's not too long or too off topic. It makes them feel heard and I find stopping them just makes them keep trying over and over. If I give them a minute or two to get it out of their system and make a comment to confirm I've understood what they said, we get along much better and can move forward faster to whatever the issue at hand is.

I run into this more with older gentlemen and I believe they just have a need to feel like they have value to add and to feel heard. They may feel a bit insecure. That I can understand and empathize with.

I often try and find some common ground around a area of interest or concern to work together on. Show some interest and share ideas - maybe find an initiative or process change you could support each other to test. Ignore the mansplaining in public or group meetings then later (privately) ask them why they felt the need to share that info in that way when it was not the way they would act with other colleagues asking a similar Q. Keep the gender out of it. I have found success when I Frame it as a ‘can you please help me understand why…’ query. It helps to listen and use their reasoning (literally repeat it back to them word for word) to ask more Q’s framed around the ‘why’ Why was this query responded to with detail when others were approached more succinctly etc

ADHD/OCD boss lady here. My experience has been that folks who want to mansplain often interrupt me to do so. This allows me to call them in on the interruption (something easily noticed) instead of the mansplaining (can be subjective). I have also shared with these folks 1:1 that women are more likely to lead with the punchline and then add context as opposed to men who are more likely to lead with context and then deliver the punchline. All this to say, they would have seen that I know what I'm doing if they hadn't interrupted me.

Just got let go and my manager said part of it was because I was looking for other jobs. I didn't look for other jobs at work, so I'm not sure how they could have known that unless a coworker snitched on me. Is it worth it to try and find out who or should I just leave it? Can't deny that I'm seriously pissed off about it.

Hi, we just launched Diversity and inclusion committee at our work place and one of our many initiatives is to share some reminders /notifications about safety and inclusion in common employee platforms/portals e.g There’s no place or time when discrimination is acceptable. Please feel free to report to HR if you com across any discriminatory behavior. Anyone has any more similar ideas what other topics we can add?

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Hey so just to check on my part. I worked at a place where we went to a firm happy hour and women attorneys were there. A picture was passed around of a really hot woman on Instagram who they are oggled , later after the woman left some guy talked about all the quote whores he slept with. The women weren't sex workers presumably. I'm a male this behavior seems inappropriate to me and made me uncomfortable. Am I expected to exhibit this level of 1950s machismo in my day-to-day life?

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

I am looking for the post made by the junior associate with the voicemail from the female partner on a Friday night telling her how stupid she is. I didn’t bookmark the voicemail and I wanted to show it to a colleague to show her there are worse bosses than ours. Lol. It was circulating a couple of months ago. I believe it was a New York firm.

The hostility on my team is rough. We have a yeller. I walked by her room the other day. She was screaming across the room at a student, "you have to be kind to get kindness." Seriously, those were her words in a loud, berating, angry tone. Our admin has asked that we not report these. We are to talk to the teacher. She has yelled at me and other adults. Admin has to know she treats the kids this way too. One teacher has to work with her door closed to not hear the yelling all day.
