If you mean working in a captive firm, where you’re outside counsel to the insured but an employee of the insurer, that is not a step to an in house position. If you’re talking about being a claims rep/adjuster, that’s a hard road to in house also. You could get lucky, but it’s not easy.
I think they mean a claims or claims defense attorney within an insurance company. That's more the in-house line I've found during my searches, and I work in insurance law.
