Hi! I just accepted a Relationship Banker II role in Allen, TX. My offer letter was 50k base and 1k guaranteed commission a month first year. I just graduated w a degree in Business Administration. Basically the info I got on how commission works was pretty vague. Anyway I wanted to see what someone I’m their 1st or 2nd year can realistically expect to on average make in commission a year in this role. Also what do bonuses in the role look like? I’m hoping to just hear some ballpark numbers! JPMorgan Chase JPMorgan Chase

Whaaaa who asks for a cover letter anymore lol. I'd just hit on some info from the job description that you're able to fill and exceed
I’m going up for PM roles myself and they seem to be hot right now. So I’ve started adding a cover letter and portfolio just to stand out and hopefully adding them can help me in the screening process.
I added work samples. As well as more full descriptions of my background. Here’s a good site to see other PM’s portfolios so you can get an idea of what that looks like: https://mypmway.com/blogs
Make sure the keywords from the job descriptions are highlighted in both your cover letter and resume
I would only recommend writing a cover letter if you need to explain something that is not obvious on your resume i.e. why you have a gap on your resume, why you are transitioning from one career to another or applying for a job where your skills are not "directly" transferrable, if you apply for a location-specific role and you will be willing to relocate for the position, you are currently living outside the US but you plan to come back, hence, the international phone number listed on your resume, etc. What a cover letter is not - a summary of your skills - that is what your resume is for.
I thought CVs were dead.
Is the company explicitly asking for one?
I wouldn't invest time in writing one unless they ask for it, which I have only heard of in academia and a few one-offs.
Just explain how your experiences on your resume showcase skillsets that are required on the job descriptions
Would love some tips! Always find a great job on the production stack and just kind of clam up with such an open-ended thing as a cover letter. Give me a call or weed me out by my resume!
I just got asked to do one too and was very surprised - not in a PM role, but still thought it was interesting that they specifically asked...I didn't think it was a thing anymore!
This is great insight thanks!
I always include a cover letter (yes, I know - old school). Just summarize your strengths and why you'd be perfect for the job (tailored to the specific job description).
I haven't written a cover letter in over a decade.
The usual recommendation is to tailor it to company where you are applying. Call out your specific experience that is relevant to the company or the project.
Agree with the above - tailor it to the company as well as the role. Try to use the same language and key words they use in the job posting because many companies use software to weed out cover letters and resume that will look to match those key words
I'm so glad you asked this question OP. I'm horrible with cover letters because I almost never need them so I'll be lurking these comments 0.o
As a long time hiring manager I can say that I will always read a cover letter and a great one can make all the difference. A bad one can definitely hurt.
If you have something genuine and meaningful to say about why you want that particular role it then it can get you an interview and get things off on the right foot. If you don’t then I wouldn’t bother.
