Make it clear to any senior person who will listen to you that you deserve it and you want it and why you think it’s time. That’s what I did and got a promo after 1 yr to sr

like

Thanks for the tips! I got something else under my sleeve too, it’s good to know someone could promote in a year

like

Tell a compelling story. Consistently demonstrate operating at the next level. Manage people onshore and offshore. Work on pursuits that sell. Justify your new bill rate.

Sometimes that’s just too much to do in a year and a half.

like

Why would that be reason to promote you after 1.5 years?

like

For sure!

Careful what you wish for - you’d rather be a highly rated associate than a tier 3/4 senior if you are not confident you have ALL the senior associate skills.

funny

This 100%. Hired in as an experienced hire and wish I would have come in as an A2 or A3 lol.

Your RL will be the one at bat for you to get promoted, try listing out why you’re qualified to be a senior based on the work you’ve accomplished that a senior would typically handle.

Also just a heads up but it may be tough this year depending on group. As much as people claim promotion is about “readiness”, the main driver is actually years in position and business need.

Pretty sure they’re are plenty of A1’s & A2’s that are far more “ready” then some A3’s; but in almost all case the A3’s are going to get promoted first. If you get stuck behind a large A3 class, then you can do everything right and still not get promoted.

There has to be some kind of written career ladder that outlines what performance looks like at the next level, according to your performance review dimensions.

Come to a meeting with your manager/career coach with a document that outlines exactly how you meet those expectations, dimension by dimension - include project bullets as well as extracurriculars and any positive feedback you've received over teams/slack or email

Is Operations paid the least at your respective firms? I was hired to a Client Service Delivery role with a heavy focus on project management. I regularly interface with leadership internally and at the client. But, I am aligned to the “Operations” capability and make the least of my teammates who perform seemingly identical work but are aligned to “Strategy and Consulting.” I worry I’m on a career path to being paid the least wherever I go, because Operations is in my title and background.

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. Suggestions?
