What I found quite useful is just sucking up to your boss in the short run. Ie ‘thank you so much for the feedback’ , really overly communicating you are implementing any changes and constantly going to your boss for any changes to get his/her ‘feedback’. Maybe not the ideal response but I find a lot of micromanaging went away after this
This is the best way to deal with micromanagers. If they think you’ve absorbed the previous feedback they’ll trust you. A lot of micromanagement comes down to a lack of trust. If that doesn’t solve it then your manager has issues and you need to get a new manager.
Always agree and do what they ask, or leave
If it's the organization culture then leave. If it's just them, pray on them.
Chief
Get a better job somewhere else and watch the boil with rage from a distance.
Give them a high amount of feedback pre-emptively, especially on projects that you know they don’t care so much about.
They’ll probably learn/decide that you need less managing
You could perhaps show genuine appreciation for the micromanagement. That might lead them to back off a little bit.
I dealt with a supervisor who did that in a bad way. I publicly pointed out her mistakes in our equivalent of "Slack" . It was a random website we used for internal communications. After doing that enough times and refusing to socialize with her and refusing to make eye contact with her unless it was work related she eventually stopped. This is bad advice. I wasn't emotionally invested in the position.
This is a good way to get fired.
This is tough. I’d say the first thing is to have an honest convo about it and see why they’re micromanaging. Is it because they don’t trust you or is it just because they need to control every aspect of the job? Then take it from there.
If that’s not an option, then yeah, just make it a super professional/dry relationship and try to take the emotions out of it. Just be like sure I’ll get that done, thanks for the tip, I’ll keep that in mind, etc.
This! I didn’t confront micro managing boss I had, but a colleague of mine did and they started having a better relationship with the manager. The manager was supportive of them after the honest convo and stopped micromanaging them.
Unfortunately, there are only two ways to deal with this situation…
One you get in to therapy, and Lear to deal with that boss
Two Lear as much as possible and leave that please… a micromanaging boss will never change, but will help you improve
Honestly, being super aggressive(professionally aggressive lol) and direct with that type of manager is the only way to be. Had that problem for about 2 years and it started to change when I put them on the spot and called them out on everything. Obvi it’s different worlds the gov compared to Corp world, but that’s really the only way to deal with that until you get a new manager.

Thoughts on telling my managers boss that quit because their micromanaging is insufferable? Their boss knows I’m a strong performer and wouldn’t want to lose me. Aside from a potential raise I’m not sure what else would change though.
This could cause their boss to double down in support of your manager.
What have you tried so far? I worked with a partner who was known for micro-managing so I tried to keep one step ahead of him at every turn. It worked - he backed off and went to micro-manage everyone else
I had a former manager that was a micro manager and I decided to talk to him about it. Things got better for a short period but then it slowly went back to the way it was before. It only stopped when they shifted him over to a different team. Not sure there's any fixing it.
Pray for a newbie for distraction.😆
Don't let the micro consume your thoughts have fun on vacation!
Accept it they won't change . You can only control yourself.
Micro managers are there to help they look for the tiniest thing and how micro are you talking are they dwarf or midget or maybe Had there Shins shoot off by the nat-z’s
