I'm pouring a lot of time and energy into learning how to run my own business and set up my own stream of income. I agree, eventually we may become obsolete so it's in our best interest that we have an exit strategy.
What sort of business are you looking to run though? In the Salesforce space, tech space, or something completely different?
It does feel that way. I haven't spent much time thinking about a career pivot and probably should. I'm hopeful it won't be necessary, but it's always good to have a backup plan.
Yes. I wonder if pivoting to more technical role like a developer of some sort makes more sense since the declarative route doesn’t seem as secure anymore. Overall though, this is more so from consulting so maybe pivoting to industry side would buy me some time. I’m also getting tired of having to outpace others just to survive but how else would one earn enough to live comfortably?
I feel like our work ecosystem is completely shifting and being reworked right from under our feet and the way to adapt to the new ecosystem is completely unclear to everyone in every industry. With all of the automation, artificial intelligence, and other industry changes on the horizon, I wish that there were some thought leaders teaching us how to adapt in each of our industries.
It's gonna be up to us to define what happens to us next.
Take control of your future.
A Salesforce AE warned me about how Salesforce will become second best to Microsoft in the next few years. I see it happening. Think about pivoting to a new technology.
Also think about how your current role has benefited you. Think of transferrable skills like Agile, PM, Scrum Master, Solutioning and architecture, and CRM.
These will benefit you in any new tech role that you move into. You just need to be willing to adapt and learn.
That’s where i was thinking the future is, personally I have heavily started leaning into transferring my LWC knowledge to React and my Apex Knowledge to backend languages.
