Answer with your target salary for the role
100,000,000 in your best Dr. Evil voice.
Every article I've read says you don't have to say. I personally have said, "it's X, but I wouldn't leave for less than Y." Where Y is > X
I've also said, "I'm not being compensated as [my degree]" or "I took a cut to get into the firm"
Don't lie - the firm can rescind their offer when they do a background check
Just tell them you'd rather not say
.... Because you trust that the newco will "do what's right"
I can't even say because I'm taxed so much
@A4 agreed. I didn't mean lie, I meant avoid the question altogether and respond with "My target salary is X." The role/company isn't worth it if they don't take the hint from there that you won't disclose.
+1 to ACN1
Give a range
Most company's not only ask you the question but now u have to fill it out while you're interviewing into an online database. Specific question reads "what is your base salary" then separately "additional comp here" so there is no way to avoid it. I'm interviewing with ACN and Del and both had me write it for the background check if I get an answer. I think the only tool u have is to say you have another higher offer
Gotta be honest but go get another offer to leverage. Good luck my friend! My two weeks is officially in.
When I came onboard with PwC (I love you, don't fire me). They gave me an offer, I had other offers for more, and they told me to forward my offer letter. They split the difference.
