I have an audit background and I couldn't get into it. I think you need an Excel wizardry background and knowledge of software we aren't exposed to in public
I told a recruiter that I wanted to be an analyst and she told me that it is so highly competitive that it would almost be impossible for me to get in. Why get someone from public when you have a million people with the background you want to choose from
Could it perhaps be the level of role you’re applying to? E.g., if senior tax applying to senior financial analyst position but no direct financial analyst experience, people might not be willing to train you and ramp you up to what they think you should already be performing at for the role they’re looking to hire. If you’re looking to transition to slightly down I think it would be a more realistic possibility. You could be a senior with 4 years work experience but I think have to be willing to start again at A1
Thank you Deloitte 1!!!
What kind of financial analyst are you talking about? Ive seen plenty of people with 1-2 years of public accounting experience and non finance/accounting degrees with the title of “analyst."
Hi EY1, I am looking for financial analyst role more focused on “analysis”, like budgeting, forecasting etc
That's a very broad title. The ones that are more accounting oriented should be fine. The excel and data analytic type roles probably not. I know people who have left for analyst roles that are more geared to accounting and they've been fine.
