Personally, I love them. My memory is terrible, so the act of receiving the car, looking it over on the spot helps lock the person I to my memory. So at a trade show or networking event where I’m shaking a lot of hands it makes it easier for me to remember who I wanted to talk to and why when I get home and am going through them all.

Hardly anyone wants to receive business cards anymore. Their only purpose these days is to direct people to an email address, LinkedIn, etc. and that just gets added on their phone and then they toss it.
So it's useful in that it's easy to hand off but also annoying because most people don't want to collect them.
Have the card be QR coded and route scans to your profile/socials as a way to get data to inform this decision?
use a digital card.
They cost a few bucks. I don’t think it’s material enough to worry about.
While many people now tend to use their smartphones or other mobile devices to capture QR code links, take photos of business cards (they know it costs money to print), or immediately send a LinkedIn Invite to Connect and initial call/text to a business contact they want to keep, there will still always be individuals who prefer a tangible business card - since frankly not everyone likes to rely solely on digital and cloud ways to keep information.
Tangible business cards also communicate that a professional is in their role & industry for the credible long haul, especially if it's a highly regulated industry where professionals need licenses (ex. Financial products).
Some prospects view something that is tangibly printed to be a complement or better than thr digital tools w/c can disappear when there are system outages, hacks, or sone con artists just set them up temporarily, etc., IMHO.
That said, I use both business cards that have QR codes on them as well as am open to just exchanging digital information immediately w/ serious prospects as needed, to please both those who don't want to hoard paper business cards as well as those who still trade things best w/ tangible cards.
You need a networking card not a business card.
One thing people cheap out on is business cards. When you get a high quality business card you take care of it. I usually order 50 business cards that are thick, well designed, and very simple.
Name
Business
Phone and email
And a QR code at most with my website or I make it download my entire information into their phone directly.
I make sure they are put in a nice small case. These details make a difference. Then I have an automated content creation on my Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn so they can see I'm active.
Everything points to my website so I can capture the lead or if they just curious
I still use business cards at events. It sets me apart from all the others who just shake hands.
