IIRC there are no state laws that require owners to spay/neuter their pets. There is just a recommended age range, but I don't know of any areas that enforce these requirements.
That's what I was thinking too, but I was curious if it was required anywhere. Thanks!
No but at certain times: Before sexual maturity: Most veterinarians recommend spaying or neutering pets before they reach sexual maturity, which typically occurs around 6 months of age for dogs and cats. Spaying or neutering before this age can reduce the risk of certain health problems, such as mammary tumors in female dogs and cats, and testicular cancer in male dogs.
Prior to adoption: Many animal shelters and rescue organizations spay or neuter animals prior to adoption. This helps to control the pet population and reduce the number of homeless animals.
Before surgery or medical treatment: In some cases, spaying or neutering may be required before a pet undergoes surgery or other medical treatment. This is done to reduce the risk of complications and improve the pet's overall health.
For certain behavioral issues: Spaying or neutering can sometimes be recommended for certain behavioral issues, such as aggression, marking, or wandering. However, the effectiveness of spaying or neutering for these issues can vary depending on the individual pet and their specific behavior problems.
