Are there any sales jobs or roles that you find are becoming obsolete and should be avoided for the future?

Good question.
Would love to hear of the opposite as well!

I would say anything retail

If you’re in sales and concerned with obsolescence in your role. I recommend going into tech/software.
You may be able to land an AE role out of the gates but if not, start as a Business Development Rep or SDR (all outbound-hunting leads) then promote yourself to AE. 7 to 9 months is fast/ideal 1.5 to 3 years is long.
Sales has existed for thousands of years. It’s not going anywhere. It’s just always changing.
I don’t see tech going anywhere either

Sales jobs and roles in traditional industries such as retail, hospitality, and manufacturing are becoming obsolete due to the emergence of digital technologies and automation. I recently worked in retail and saw how automation was slowly replacing sales staff. I think that the best way to avoid becoming obsolete in sales is to stay up to date on the latest technologies, trends, and strategies in the industry.

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. I also went above and beyond my job as well (covering for him for a month while he was away on paternity leave) while taking on other projects outside of my job title and got zip—no raise or recognition. Any advice would be appreciated!

My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?

I’m about to give my notice at a firm I’ve been at for the majority of my legal career. They’ve recently offered me non-equity partnership (which I’ve accepted), w equity partnership on the horizon. However, I’ve been annoyed with their way of running the business and getting between me and my earnings far too long; and I received a lucrative offer to go in-house. I’m not looking forward to their reaction and feel bad about them having to take over my docket when everyone’s very busy. Any tips?

After 45 minutes she said they will let me know...

This is a major red flag, but I can’t help but feel that I am missing out since this role pays 50% over what I currently make. Should I let the recruiter know? What’s your take on this?
