I went from making 105k as an engineer to 230k as an mba consultant. 3-4 years out I make 350k. Where you go to school plays a role and what you do before and after obviously does too.
Yea, is it rx or pi? Do you happen to know the difference in compensation for these 2 teams?
I did mine with Duke and it was the best decision I’ve made. Yes, it’s $150K but I have more than doubled my salary, switched fields, am happier, etc. I did an exec MBA with 6 YOE.
Just graduated with my mba in May and I am confident it will pay off. I more than doubled my comp from $100k to $240k post mba. I was in a corporate finance role at a f500 with very slow upward mobility and in my current position my comp will scale significantly faster with higher upside. Also I went to the school that gave me the most scholarship $$ so I graduated with less debt; I think if you avoid lifestyle creep and live like you did pre-mba you can put away a lot of money quickly and pay off debt aggressively ( I have been trying to do this). From a financial perspective i believe it paid off for me tremendously
I have an accounting background and restructuring is on my list of options to consider post MBA. Do you enjoy the work? Anything you wish you knew beforehand? Thx!
Following for those of us still considering where get a MBA
My wife and I both did a T10 MBA, fully out of pocket for me and half for her. Two years out and we closed on a house and have paid down half of our loans. We have already caught up to our highest performing friends.
That being said you can go to a top MBA and choose a more comfortable career that only pays ~130k and that will be a different story. It depends on the kind of work you want to put in and what is important to you from a values perspective.
With the cost of a top-tier MBA I have the cynical view that it makes less and less sense if you value WLB. You can assume it is probably $160-200k out of pocket and you are probably looking at 7%+ rate on federal loans so that will give you some idea on how long it would take you to pay it off.
Relatable
I’m definitely afraid but I also want to get out of my current field despite how lucrative I know it can be. The way I see it, I always have a backup plan of just returning to my old job with my only loss being 2 years of income/career growth
@EY and tuition though hoping for some scholarships & I had no debt for undergrad so meh
No I don’t since they gave me full ride. Though i do see friends, especially international students, who are going through the same thing. Stay strong, work hard, and it’ll pay off in due time.
I did mine at McCombs and instantly doubled my salary so it paid off right away. If you went into consulting you should be making good money right?
Get it paid for through your employer. Mine only required I stay 2 years after they wrote the last check. Definitely worth it. I did mine through Capella because they kept the cost capped at what you could be reimbursed through my former employer
They’re buying houses now but you’ll be buying a yacht in 10 years 😎
Ummmm. No you won’t.
Did it part time. No regrets. Got a new job which will pay it off in 2 years.
I paid undergrad loans and MBA loans off in 5 years post-MBA. Went to a great regional school, not M7.
Refinanced with a lower interest rate and paid it off during the pandemic.
