Yes. And yes. They will provide you a standard amount depending on the agency. You can raise the amount and it will cost you a few dollars. Literally just a few dollars. I’ve seen some for $10 they raise the amount up to $200,000.00. Also it is wise to get a second supplemental life insurance policy outside the agency. They’re inexpensive and your family will need it if you ever pass.

Generally the city will provide you enough to pay for your funeral expenses... If you want more than that to care for your family it's coming out of your pocket.
Well for me my department has a little one, then the union has one and you can purchase even more for very low price with no health questions asked. I was pay 28 dollars for 200000 which is pretty good. Also we have a contractions agreement that allows for staff to give to the family up to 50k using other employees time bank.

You pay for life insurance, which can be through your department, and there are law enforcement friendly companies that offer supplemental coverage
