Experience gets you the interview. Personality gets you hired. Sorry to hear, but better to avoid a potentially bad culture fit now than endure the next year at a place that wasn’t right. Good luck with the search.
Accounts are different, but generally speaking don’t you think account management is heavily reliant on personality fit?
I’m curious OP, are you a woman? I feel like men don’t get this type of personality criticism
Never
I am a woman
Ugh that’s the worst, I’m sorry. This happened to me this past summer; I wasn’t “enthusiastic enough”. Like did you want me to come in here with balloons, confetti, and and a big clown smile painted on my face bc I thought I was “enthusiastic enough”. But whatever. Later heard some stuff that made me glad I didn’t make the cut 😼
Personality is always super important- sometimes unfairly so. Sorry you lost out on the opp because of it. 😞
Honestly, I'd rather work with someone a little green but who's clearly into it and vibes with the team vs. someone who's got the chops but makes me want to put a gun in my mouth.
Not saying you're the latter, but don't mourn losing out on a place that didn't think you'd get along.
I’ve got your “flair” right here!
Account teams will hire cheerleaders over experience every time. You're basically on a sales team. It's Glengarry Glen Ross without the character development.
At no point. Personality is absolutely equally important and it goes both ways during the interview and across all other human interactions. Tone, dress, body language, facial expressions, everything goes into your communication style and is an extension of you. It's fact whether we like it or not and we all get info about people from all of these factors combined. Think back on it and how you present yourself and decide if there is a part you'd like to adjust for the next interview. It doesn't mean you're a bad person but feedback is a chance for self reflection as well.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m a positive person but I’m not consistently happy go lucky. I also have great relationships with my internal and client teams. I jus have never received that kind of feedback about myself before.
@senior copy 1 - i’m a guy and I have said this to guys i’ve interviewed. well, not said to them, but to my team when we discussed him.
Men definitely do, whether it's communicated or not. We passed on two candidates (one male, one female) in large part because their personalities weren't good fits. Conversely, personality put one female we hired over the top in the hiring process.
If you act flat, arrogant or uninterested during an interview, the person interviewing you is likely to assume that's how you'll act if hired. And it doesn't matter what's between your legs.
At least turn it on for the interview!
No one likes you.
