Been at D (legacy S&O) for ~ 6 wks now as an analyst and goal to be at MBB by EoY. 1) Where can I find resources on how “experienced” hire recruiting differs from campus hires? 2) What are some best practices/resources/tips for casing? Got 2 1st round interviews during college, and did well on behavioral, but was told my casing needed some work. I want to do anything in my power to close my ability gap. Thank you!

McK2, I actually have ~18 months of D experience out of undergrad and am applying to McKinsey. Will I be slotted as a BA or SBA if I get an offer? What determines that placement?

like

You need at least 1 year of high quality, translatable experience before you can jump over.
Start networking again at the 6 month mark at the earliest. Referrals are the way to go for experienced recruiting.
In the meantime, focus on doing a good job where you are at.

Best bet is to do well, go get an MBA and pivot from there. Lateral with <1 YOE is a tough sell.

like

Appreciate the tip! Definitely trying, if possible, to get a new role well before business school because since I keep hearing from people within the firm that Deloitte is continuing to traduce spots/offers in their grad assistance program. Folks from MBB say their program is much more robust and practically guaranteed to anyone who’s in good standing after 2/3 YOE. Can’t afford the MBA without sponsorship.

You probably just didn't practice enough in college. Take some time during weekends and/or nights to practice casing with a buddy before you apply again.

I feel like I was straight up lied to during the interview process. “lots of opportunities to hit quota”. I’m sitting here with only one demo two months after joining the company. it looks like our team has only two people doing demos, and demos are only happening once every two weeks. At this rate, I don’t think I’ll be even close to hitting OTE. Are there any other companies hiring right now? I’ll have a discussion about my concerns with my manager soon, but there’s too many red flags here.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
