Golin is a wonderful place to work if you make the right connections immediately and never stray from them. Work on McDonald’s or Walmart and you’ll be fine.
McDonald’s is never fun. I’m still traumatized from working on that account.
Golin Chicago recruited me HARD and the job seemed like a dream... until I got there. They are really good at selling but not on delivering/follow-through. I agree with what BCW 1 said above - make the right connections immediately and find a safe zone in Walmart or McD. Although Walmart is a hard team to be on.
The head of the Walmart team is amazing - I got to work with her briefly and loved her. Walmart can be hard for the reasons listed by the last comment and obviously when things get stressful people can get crispy. But that person is right - they do incredible work.
All the agencies are the same
I work in the Chicago office. Strong culture. A lot of collaboration and caring people.
Maybe I’m super jaded, but I’d assume all big agencies are about the same - mostly frustrating with pockets of good stuff. If the money’s right, take it, but don’t expect utopia exists anywhere in a large shop. Of course, YMMV.
Yeah I’m not expecting a massive shift but in need of a change overall
I work at Golin and joined a few years ago. We have a lot of happy former Ketchum folks — have met their expectations and then some. Talk to them. Disagree that all big agencies are the same. I’ve been at other big agencies and do see a difference here.
Most mid-large agencies lack heavily in culture, only place you’ll get some decent culture is a small/boutique shop or an in-house role. I haven’t heard good stuff about Golin’s culture.
Golin NY or Golin Chicago? I worked at Golin Chicago awhile back and loved the culture. I was recently being recruited by Golin NY but got a weird vibe and ended up taking a better offer since they couldn’t match it. I don’t think Golin NY pay is on par with what other agencies offer. I had 3 offers at the time and Golin came in the lowest. Sad because, all things being equal, I would have taken it.
The culture in NY is extremely toxic. You really see how dysfunctional it is when you leave. When I was there I just thought it was normal. Leadership’s gaslighting is pretty ingrained, and those who are in the clique are the problem and likely will never leave.
The best culture out of the any agency I’ve ever worked at. In one sentence: they are the kind people who kick butt.
I'm hearing that Golin culture really varies by office. Can someone share how it is now, specifically in LA? What's the vibe like these days?
Golin REALLY depends on the office. Where are you looking?
so interesting to hear these golin ny comments... tbh when we were still in the office i used to hide on golin’s floor because it felt more warm & welcoming compared to WS
but tbh anywhere’s probably better than WS 💀
Is Ketchum still spiraling? I was recruited and left K for a client side role a while back. Do you want more of the same with more money or a true career change?
Not spiraling exactly but feels like I’ve outgrown the company. It’s not *great*, but nowhere near where it was. I do want to go client side eventually just now isn’t the right time. This role would be fewer accounts than I’m currently on (pay TBD since there isn’t an offer yet)
