We make the same amount of revenue whether or not we keep that person as long as we immediately backfill there role. The layoffs are about lowering our cost base as a firm. Obviously we're going to try to keep the best people when we cut. Therefore staffed low-peeformers get cut and immediately backfilled by someone on the beach.
Probably because there is someone on the bench who could do the role better. I guess the thought is that just because you're on a project, doesn't mean that you deserve to be there. Not sure though, seems odd to me as well
Is it because their salary is too high and thus lowering the firms profit margin on them?

The swap could also potentially increase our margins as well if we replace say a second-year BA with a first-year.
Because the firm needs the salaries to pay for the acquisitions it's making to grow the tech consulting practice.
