You learn that it’s never in your benefit to get through everything at a lightning fast pace
Just stretch your time - problem solved
Wow-Robert notables=round tables
No problem with efficiency but do you speak up when your not utilized to take on more tasks? What is you LOS?
If someone beneath you had this issue , I’m relatively sure you wouldn’t want them “stretching their time”
It doesn’t matter what I want from someone beneath me really... i mean it matters to me but I also understand everyone is self interested. In this case, as you can see, it’s in your interest to do the work slower.
Wouldn’t matter to someone above that the person beneath them is charging more, it’s not actually their company. I don’t understand your way of thinking....
That’s weird. I’ve never heard utilization playing a big part in anything unless you’re in the top or bottom 5% of utilization
You’re probably not as efficient as you think.
Take on another/new client
Yeah unless your messing up someone’s budget or not working enough utilization doesn’t matter
Having just sat in on manager led pre-CRTs I can tell you that utilization played a role in bonus recommendations but, as long as you were within a reasonable range of the budget, had no effect on tiering.
Assurance. Yes, I’m constantly asking what else I can do on my teams and there’s never anything else
Can’t speak for PWC, but at EY audit your utilization only comes into play if it’s an outlier in either direction. Efficiency would likely not cause you to be an outlier in a negative way unless you are like 50% faster than everyone else
Come on over to EY. We love efficient overachievers. We’ll give you as much work as you want
Find the right balance OP. Are you involved with Billings/WIP reconciliations? Maximize the budget.
Also coming from a team that was understaffed and under utilization is never going to be an issue... There’s always more work out there. There are always engagements who could use more help. So while I understand the position you were in made it seem like efficiency caused a problem, it makes sense to reward those who put in the extra hours due to demand, not due to inefficiencies.
Everyone’s experience is different; I’ve been a 1 every year and never had obscene utilization. I find that top tiering comes from self advocacy and making sure the right people in the round tables know you.
Agree- I recall a number of years in Robert notables where the lower overtime was noted and discarded as a factor given the individual’s excellent performance..
Pad your hours - if it shouldve taken 5 but you made it in 3, charge 4 or 4.5
