What is anyone else going to tell you that you didn’t just say?
I grew up clipping coupons with my parents and now I have no idea what food costs and have a shopping spree at the grocery store. You can do this - make that dough
Just to clarify, not all CPAs will make that partner dough. A decent amount will though
I have both my CPA and MBA. On linkedin I can see what keywords recruiters have used to find my profile. CPA is always in the top 3. MBA has never been in the top 3.
In terms of ROI I paid out of pocket for my MBA. If the firm is covering your CPA, besides your time it is free for you. Time wise I think I spent the same amount of time studying for the CPA exam as I did on my MBA.
IMO in terms of marketability for jobs if I had to go back and only choose 1 it would be my CPA
Aside from the different natures of the two, the CPA is a uniform exam whereas the legitimacy of an MBA degree is highly dependent on the institution that’s backing the degree. So it makes sense that recruiters who are looking for accountants would search for CPAs rather than those with MBAs.
Simply put: you’ll never regret getting your CPA but you might regret *not* getting it. As someone who lingered and on/off studied for 3.5 years, just get it done. Not having it on your mind while having those letters behind your name will be worth it.
I saw it as the last test taking exercise I’d ever have to do lol. That’s what helped me get through it
Not having a CPA license caps you at the Senior level in public. CPA is often a requirement or preference in job postings. If you're a staff - It will be harder to study and work once you have more responsibilities.
Think about it this way. Your goal is to pivot. Okay, that’s lots of other people’s goals too. Why in the world would any school or employer want you over all the other audit pivoters who actually completed their CPA??

Yea, it’s hard to sit and put in the hours. It looks good on paper but overall useless. Let me know when you find motivation. I know I haven’t yet.
Lol love all the feedback. Literally everyone, friends family, colleagues are pressuring me so I might as well start during/after busy season
I haven’t taken any exams yet
