IF(OR(AND(age>=55,YOS>=10),AND(age>=65,YOS>=1)),”Y”,”N”)
Basically does:
If condition 1 OR condition 2 are met then Y else N.
Condition 1: age >= 55 AND YOS >= 10
Condition 2: age >= 65 AND YOS >= 1
Oh my bad. Then I would do something like MIN(MAX(55-age,YOS-10,0),MAX(65-age,YOS-1,0))
This returns the smallest between the following two:
1)
This returns the max between:
•years left until age 55
•years left until 10 YOS
•0
2)
This returns the max between:
•years left until age 65
•years left until 1 YOS
•0
The output of this will be in years, so you’ll need to add it to TODAY() using something like =DATE(YEAR(TODAY()) + OUTPUT, MONTH(TODAY()), DAY(TODAY())
This is more of a logical question than an excel question so please validate this suggestion as I’m just white boarding without testing if it works
So to clarify, the ONLY 2 options are 55 years and 10 years of service or 65 and 1 year of service? A few more answers will allow me to help but:
If I am 53 and hit 10 years of service do I wait until 55? What if I don’t give my 10 years until 56, does my retirement age have to be 65 then? What if I’m 70 and I don’t hit my 1 year of service at 71?
It is the earlier of 55 years of age + 10 years of service or 65 years of age + 1 year of service.
- if 53 and have 10 years of service your retirement eligibility date would be the date you turn 55.
- if you hit 10 years at age 56 that would be your eligible retirement date.
- if you are 70 and hit the one year of service your qualified retirement date would be the date you hit the one year service.
Prob going to be a more complex version of an IF statement. Basically IF age >54, then IF time of service >x, and then age >64, then time of service.. whatever.. something like that.. it's a nested IF I think.. with a possibility of a few errors... And need some clarification as Salarius posted.
Thank you. I created a pretty lengthy formula and it did the job. Thank you.
