Curious about people who started out in personal injury law right after passing the bar. Did you know you would gravitate in that direction or did you decide to change your practice area?

I’ve always wanted to practice personal injury law. I was excited about the idea of helping friends and family members. Personal injury seemed like the easiest way to be able to help others and make a decent living without working crazy hours. Starting out, I knew I wanted to learn PI by working for a small firm that had a reputation of litigating. The trade off was accepting a lower salary.

Thank you for sharing this info!

It kind of just happened. But I only lasted a two years because I became very bored with the role. I didn’t feel challenged or that I was really even lawyering. The back and forth with insurance adjusters quickly because repetitive and unfulfilling. Now that I’ve been on the other side I often miss the simple PI life haha

Thank you for sharing!

Hello, I’m a Physical Therapist (DPT) and am considering going back to school for my MBA. I’m hoping to pivot out of patient care and into a more corporate/leadership role. Is there anyone here with a similar background? Any insights as far as opportunities an MBA could afford for someone like myself? Thank you

Life / Career Advice: I applied to medical school since my MCAT score was set to expire, ended up getting into 1 program. I also have an opp to join a well funded/well established Healthtech Startup (6 figure salary w/ equity + benefits) as a BD professional. I enjoy the business side of things and am unsure if I would end up practicing Medicine (medicine is also a long arduous path). At the same time, having an MD holds a lot of clout/authority in HC. Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Anyone else have similar ideas?

My current title is Buyer. I handle the purchasing of the larger categories of direct materials and train any new Buyers. I also manage outsourcing and quoting of raw materials for new business, among other things.

I am looking at taking over capacity planning for manufacturing, while keeping my previous responsibility.

What could I suggest for a new title/promotion? There isn't an existing position that I would be filling, and I want to show career growth on my resume.

I finished my internship at EY LLP (Feb-Jul) after nearly 6 months. I've been promoted to Senior Analyst. Is there a set time of month that I must be in this position in order to be considered for the next promotion?

Otherwise, is there a mid-year promotion?

I am prior military and went to law school. How could I get some experience strictly remote? I am w-2 working as an accountant in healthcare, have passed the bar and am working on my CPA license (studying starts at 3 am, then work FT). I would like to eventually hang a shingle as a tax lawyer, but need experience. TIA!

I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.

Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?
