My boss worked two years at a firm before coming in-house. I didn’t work at any place glamorous or exciting before coming in house, and even then it was three years. Regardless, if you get an interview, show enthusiasm and a genuine interest of learning the work. Don’t worry about years of service, demonstrate what you can offer and your passion.

As another poster mentioned, you could probably snag *something* in-house now. Lots of people tend to forget that a large part of the reason to stay at a firm is to pay off loans bc of the higher total cash comp. If you don’t have that problem, it makes it easier going in-house early.
I was in biglaw for 9 years before moving in-house, but there are a # of attorneys that report to me that either started in-house or jumped after 2-3 years. All are fine attorneys and I wouldn’t change a thing about their experience.
Hah! Fair enough. My experience has been there’s certainly some in-house jobs available for more junior levels, but the “better” (higher pay, more supervisory responsibility) in-house jobs are reserved for those who tough it out in biglaw for several years.

Thanks! The thing that is most disheartening is that I actually really like the people I work with, and I do enjoy the work, even though I feel like I’m being pigeonholed to a certain extent. It’s just the firm experience I seem to struggle with.
