First off, I'm very surprised to find someone who enjoys risk assurance. I couldn't stand it and finally left. Good for you!
I would check what Accenture strategy actually is. If it's just implementation work then it's not truly strategy. If it is truly strategy work (corp and M&A strategy), then yeah you'd be pretty crazy not to take it. At the very least you'd have way more opportunities than in risk, and bouncing back to risk would be very easy if you decided it wasn't for you.
At the end of the day, you gotta go where you're happy, but honestly I think 99% of people would take it.
Another note, the nature of risk assurance/advisory is that it revolves around compliance. People sh*t on risk all the time, but some of the work outside of SOX/controls can be okay sometimes. However, everything is done with a compliance viewpoint.
For example, in strategy you could help a client with a new product offering. Everything from what product to offer, price point, customer base, how to market it, etc. So it's a truly forward looking and valued role.
In risk, you are not brought in for this. At BEST, after the new product is brought in, you might be asked by a client to design some controls around the sales process or do an operational audit. The nature of risk does not really allow you to branch into the truly strategic and forward looking work, and that's why risk and strategy are (and always will be) two separate divisions.
I actually enjoy IA and IT audit work. Think about what you want to do long term and check job descriptions of what type of experience is preferred for those positions.
If you like IA, there is a future. A lot of people don’t like the work, and some of the ones that do lack people skills. I am a VP of IA for a public company. I have had this role at 3 PubCos now.
The SOX/compliance work can be boring, but my teams leads most if that. I send most of time on Enterprise Risk, specifically strategic risk.
I make great money and have excellent work life balance. I work for the Chair of the Audit Committee so I have great autonomy.
If you really like the job, why did you apply and interview at other places?
