Definitely negotiate for the SC title, especially with 5 YOE. My Recruiter alluded that I would be made an offer for C (I have 3.5 YOE, and was an early promote SC at my previous firm), but I pushed-back on C because the role was technical, and I filled a skills gap that the practice was lacking. I had a very frank conversation with my Recruiter, where I highlighted what my value add would be, and they budged.
You won't get to SC in a year, a minimum would be two years. They might claim it but it will be virtually impossible because you will have to build out trust with multiple partners or SMs to sign off on your performance being good enough for promo. Also next performance year starts Jan 8, so you might already be behind the eight ball in terms of not even having a full year.
That said, you will still likely get a good raise even at C, and if they offered you C at 140k then that probably is a good deal. For what it's worth I was a M1 at a different B4 and came in as SC with 6YOE at D at 165k two years ago (I was willing to do the title downgrade for the 25% pay increase) and now I am a Manager at 196k base.
Not 1 yr. Be aware of what HR “promises” verbally
Agree. It will take two years. I made this mistake. Negotiate SC if you can.

Fight for the SC role. Not worth coming in as a C.
That happens quite often in my team. Downgrading for a year as like an experience period
I would not budge, this happened to me and they promised me I could go up within a year, then covid hit and they pulled early promos, it’s best to collect your coins and tittle at the door before crossing the gates to hell. Also, keep in mind Deloitte Consulting is not like other organizations where promotions are expected, things can be very political and circumstantial here so it may be an uphill battle to get it within your 1st year unless you really kill it and get staffed on projects that’s allow you to demonstrate senior level performance consistency over an extended period of time, in this case 1 full year before promotion, work with managers / leaders that support you and like you (performance management is very subjective here), also you will need to time your start date to give you as much runway within a year’s performance management review. Did you interview for C or SC role? If SC, do not budge, consider coming to Deloitte in a future time, there are plenty of other big 4 that have a more simpler talent model for junior practitioners that will allow you to come at the SC while still allowing you to develop any skills Deloitte might feel you might be missing. You could try again in 6-12 months and get your tittle / more coins.

What’s the “highest range”?
Pretty sure they’re referencing the top of their salary band
C to sc in one year is very rare. Don’t depend on that. Take a call assuming min 2-3 years for c to sc. Recruitment team will tell you that you are highest level among C, but at year end, number of years at current level also matters and at that point recruitment team won’t be around to support you
I was in a similar situation and accepted the C offer. Thought about it and as an industry hire, thought I would rather come in, find my footing, and kill it. Don’t plan on staying here for too long so the title does not matter to me much
I had an offer for consultant as well instead of SC. But it would be a step down for me given my YOE. So I turned it down. And funny enough the recruiter sounded very shocked at my decision. By the tone of his voice towards me turning it down, the vibe I got was ‘this is a big 4 company.. and you’re turning it down?’ Lol no company is worth taking a step down, no matter the ‘prestige’ lol

Thanks!
Title deflation is still rampant at Deloitte. Don’t come in C, it is a 3 year position.
Go for SC and highest base salary you can get
Dont come in at C. This happened to me and I had 5YOE under my belt when I joined. Trying to get an early promo now but doesnt seem like its happening-heard early promo is very very rare even if you’re killin it at ur project work, you need to have firm initatives, people impact and all other bs.
I got initially offered a consultant position but after discussions and negotiations I got bumped up to SC. How did your negotiations go? You should try to enter as SC.
Same!
2 years is usually it. Learning consulting is 1 thing but then learning Deloitte consulting is another. You also will have to perform as a SC before you get promoted for about 1 year. Good luck. 🍀
Is it like for like experience though? I’ve had this with an offer I made recently, but it was due to them having only really done implementation type projects and we’re a Strategy practice.
Seconding this. You’ll set yourself up for lackluster performance feedback if you aren’t ready for the SC role because your experience doesn’t translate well.

Hell no. I got an offer as a SC with 5 years of industry experience.
D always brings you in at the lowest tenure for the position. So extremely unlikely. What I will say depending on when you join you can optimize it. I came in towards the end of the PY so got in my minimal snapshots, got staffed all that jazz and set myself up for success. Then was able to do it the next PY. A lot of variables, came into that to be fair.
The exact same thing happened to me. What was the highest range they offered to you?
Definitely not. Promotions take around 2 years to get to SC in Deloitte - don’t forget you will be rebuilding your network too. What is the highest range?
