No, but PwC does the weird “3 years to senior” that no one else does, so it’s really the same—manager in 5.
Edit: the above answer is assuming standard timelines. Manager in 4 total years is possible for early promote, but that’s extremely rare.
Thank you KPMG 1, that’s what I wanted to know.
Senior for two years then manager is fairly common. Typically happens on large engagement where there is a manager need and the senior has total 4 years experience from staff to senior on that client.
Given the staffing situation. I doubt many seniors will be early promo’d.
Came in as experienced hire and then promoted in one and half years.
2 years at senior @EY is very unusual
Not herd anyone doing senior to manager in 2 yrs … in big4 . Smaller firms may do it . May the big4 firm plz stand up …. If implemented …hugs and kisses
I did it at PwC.
Edit: I was in Advisory. Didn’t notice this was the Audit bowl. Also, now that I notice this is the Audit bowl, my sincerest condolences. Started college as an accounting major and promptly changed majors after doing an audit internship.
Yes. Just saw a MD promote that went from SA to MD In eight years.

My senior manager at PwC went from assoc-> senior in 2 years (back when it was 3 years assoc) then senior-> manager in another 2 years. She left the firm as senior manager. She’s now VP at MGM in Vegas.
Someone on my team was just promoted to manager after 1 year. Was staff for 1.5 years. It’s possible if you’re a rock star.
It’s uncommon, but can happen if you’re a high performer. One of the managers on my team went from staff to SA in 1.5 years, and from SA to Manager in 2 years. She definitely earned it, and for me personally, it created the rare situation (at least in PA) where my boss is younger than me
It also depends on the nature of your work, it’s easier for consultants in for exx human capital or management heavy work to be promoted in The 2 yrs to senior and then two years to manager timeframe while longer for IT/cyber folks…. Just merely because the latter is more technical and requires knowledge that comes from experience as well as certifications/licenses.
Meaning if yours is more technical or speciality focus it’s natural for you to be on a “slower” track compared to the first. don’t be discourage if it takes longer for you to get to manager. Also getting promoted to manager may sound amazing title wise, but in some cases, you would be compensated with less compared to your other peers who may get manager in a later timeframe only bc your promotion only happened due to a need for more managers on your account team and not necessarily bc you are truly at manager level. 🥰 so at the end of the day, as long as you are paid right, the title will follow sooner or lster. I’ve known so many SCs that are paid more than early promoted managers 😄. Trust me, title is not worth it. The pay is 😆
Depends on need and how much you kill it. I just did Senior to Manager in 2 years, and am already looking toward director.
At EY (at least in audit) - high performers are skip promoted every year: staff 1, staff 2, sr 1, sr 2 - mgr!! They skip the sr 3 year. Not rare at all.
I have multiple friends who have been promoted from SC to M in 2 years or slightly over
It’s possible but not likely. The normal track at EY tax is 1 year 9 months to 2 years 3 months to reach senior (depending on if you started in July, October, or July) and another 3 years to reach manager. In my office, being early promoted to manager for GCR is very uncommon, but it does happen. ITS is a different story. Recently there are more people who did two years at senior than three. It’s surprising because a lot less people do ITS compared to GCR. There is less turnover with ITS people as well. I guess it makes sense because hours wise they work a lot less hours than GCR and due to the consulting nature of the work, ITS work can be immaterial for quarters when it comes to Channel 1 audit work. There have been a handful of people in ITS who also only spent two years as manager before being promoted to SM. Don’t get me wrong tho. These people are very good at their job. ITS partners just seem to advocate more for their people than GCR partners. Even the best GCR people in my year were told there was no chance they’d be early promoted a whole year.
EY tech consulting is starting to have more 3rd yr staffs and manager in 5 yrs has always been tough. It’s more like 3-5 yrs as a senior before manager in tech consulting
