Going to PE - my future employer only called references, didn’t ask to speak with my staffer. (References were two MDs and an associate, fwiw). Would imagine the hiring manager will ask for people to speak with, so yes I would connect him/her with people you have a good working relationship with, doesn’t have to be your staffer/manager though.
Just wait for them to ask. Have never heard of scenario where they call without notifying you first. Be patient, you’ll be fine
He didn’t ask yet. But during the interview he asked if my manager knows i am looking for smth else. I was just hoping they don’t call my manager directly without notifying me. If they do ask i could give them my references for sure. If i proactively give them names they should talk to without them asking first - is that a bad sign?
Agreed - there is no upside for them to put you in a difficult position with your current manager. Good luck!
Yes they do and your best answer is “I will let them know once I get closer to the offer and will be happy to connect the two of you” if a prospective manager reaches out to current manager without notifying you, it’s something to think if you want to work for someone like this , I do know managers who screw you just because you are leaving them
A hiring manager would not be reaching out for references from your current manager.
Most BB type firms have a no reply policy and further if asked via HR will barely confirm more than dates of employment (which they can get from ADP on the background search anyway).
So, no they won't be doing that.
