My point is that it’s an audit magnet
If your employer offers an office option - even if you don’t use it, you can’t claim a home office. Given that all consulting firms basically have an office in every geo location (not necessarily convenient), you can’t claim it.
No you can’t. I am remote and I still can’t expense it
What percent of the time do you think you use your home office for non-work stuff?
I just use it on Friday’s to work at home. It’s a dedicated space. What’s tripping me up is that we do have offices all over, so technically I could go into the office on fridays but I choose to work from home (I.e not sure if it satisfies the IRS test of “working from home as a convenience to the employer”)
Good to know. I didn’t bother because I don’t want to have to pay it all back when you sell. All that depreciation gets backed out- or so I was told.
Don’t do it - audit flag plus you are on W2 so Home office is not an option
I claimed office expenses and office fixture depreciation to get the itemized deduction. Admittedly, I’ve bought into the taxes as a negotiation approach.. and seeing as I spent roughly 30- 40% of my time working in my home office when I consider most Friday’s and time on the beach, I can sleep at night
