I never tip because that is their job. Not my problem if their employer cannot pay them, they can leave. It doesn't mean somebody else has to pick up the tab. In general, tipping was meant to be given to someone going above and beyond their regular work, not to just do their damn work. Just like I have to go above and beyond to earn my bonus.
Engagement Mgr1 that is stealing! And really your just a douche bag based on your comments!
I for one tip every week 10 bucks standard . I also have a housekeeper that I tip because she does a damn good job!
No tip. America has lost its mind with tipping for basic services.
There are clearly too many consultants who have no idea what it's like to be poor and lack basic empathy.
Have some class and leave a tip. Most Americans don’t make a livable wage and I expect that includes housekeepers.
I usually deny service during my days for the points
Why would being there for business purposes have anything to do with whether or not you leave a tip? They still do the same amount of work right? And still get paid like shit? Then leave a tip.
Using this logic, shouldn’t we then tip cashiers at the grocery store if they work hard and provide us good (customer) service?
Wait, you expense tips that you don't actually give and pocket the money for yourself? This may be one of the shittiest, Dickensian things I've ever read.
I do, but not consistently.
I tip. Always. And P2, you’re basing that from? Got a relative who works in hotel housekeeping?
I do the green choice with SPG. I'll make my own bed if I want it made.
I do sometimes $10 to $20 because why not make someone’s day
Some of y’all bitches are shameful. Stingy on the company’s dime...for what?
Bureau of Labor Statistics has mean hourly wage for this profession as $11.37 for those working at hotels. That's more than McDonald's pays. Please let me know when you all start tipping fast food workers. Until then, no tip for housekeeping.
If you don't get paid fair wage on your job, you should take it up with your employer or quit and find another job. Again, doesn't mean the customer had a responsibility to leave any tip. I hope one day everyone stops paying tip. The root cause is employers not paying well enough, leaving people dependent on the tips. That should change, maybe thru regulations. Tipping is just putting a bandaid on a bigger underlying problem.
BA1, you don’t know what tipping is. You are referring to charity.
Always leave a tip for housekeeping regardless of what you're there for. It's not charity, it's pretty much standard for the hospitality industry (restaurants, hotels, etc). A waiters job is something they get paid for and, per US culture, we say 15-20% tip is fair. For housekeeping, why wouldn't we do the same? I'm not suggesting that large of a tip, but $5/day if daily or $5-10 per week depending on the condition you leave the room. Also, I have a cousin who works for a hotel chain and that is a strong piece of advice she provided me.
Yes and there is an expense category for it. Have some compassion and leave a tip, these people are barely making a living
I do and they definitely don’t have good benefits and or are paid well
