I have my team do this right up front if they are interested in moving a candidate to a hiring manager. It avoids pitfalls when so far down the path of a hire.
I request for their portfolio/website when applying for the position. If they didn’t provide it on the application and they’re resume is a match, I email them asking for it before my initial interview with the candidate.
I think it's fair to use it in the initial hiring stages, but I'm quite selective. I'll definitely take a look at it, but I'm not always going to share it with the client unless I think there's something really important there
