Do you think people leave because of pay, or because of how pay makes them feel? I have had conversations where the amount itself was not the biggest issue. It was the feeling of not being recognised, or believing their contribution was worth more than it appeared to be..

It really depends - in my opinion it’s 2 fold: rewards (comp) and recognition (being seen). However, there is an intersection point between the 2.

I find personally it needs to be a reasonable balance of both. However, someone may be paid well but they want more recognition, praise, visibility, leadership or impact.

Compensation is part of what shows you just how much the company values you, in ax explicit dollar amount.

So this is where poor comp, will bleed into recognition issues and resentment if not balanced. Also recognition is important feedback to guide employees on performance, reward them for a job well done, build relationships and belonging.

I know where I am now.. I feel both are lacking and I’d be happy to leave for better pay in short order. I get to learn A LOT, but I’m at a point in my career where I need to be paid for that knowledge.

Additional Posts in Human Resources

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Internship Program Help: Hi Everyone! I’ve never worked for a company with any type of internship program at all, let alone a really successful one. My new company thrives off our internship program, with many of our managers/directors having started as one themselves. Also don’t want to bite off more than I can chew, but would love to hear some tips or even better, maybe have a quick chat if willing?
