I've seen some people pivot to COO roles. Am looking to emulate that myself actually.

Can you expand on this? Which law specialties and background?

This is my goal as well. I’m hoping to do a hybrid legal/operational role first, then try to work my way into the C suite. Seems a lot, a sh*t ton harder in practice than in theory. But people do it all the time.

like

Move in house legal, then transition to c-suite after showing internal understanding of the business.

Good question. Following. I've been thinking about this lately but have no idea how to make such a transition.

like

One thing to maybe think about. Seems that smaller businesses might offer to their in house legal teams more executive responsibilities earlier on in your time with the company, which could provide more opportunities to get to the C suite quicker.

I’ve interviewed quite a few people who’ve made that transition on my podcast, The Lawyer’s Escape Pod. Two names that pop to mind are Lisa Hodes and Alex Su. But short answer - yes, totally possible.

Has anyone made the transition from non-profit and small firm practice to federal government, big law, in-house? I’m a special education parent attorney at a small firm and I’ve spent my legal career in the education and juvenile areas of the law working for 2 non-profits before ending up at the firm. However, I’m just exhausted, unmotivated, and and looking for a change. At this point (6.5 yrs of practice), is that type of transition even possible or am I stuck due to the practice area?

Hi fishes,
I am currently working as a Data Science Analyst in Amex and would like to make a switch to Fraud detection/Credit risk modelling in future.(not in a hurry but would like to start preparing for the same)
How should I go about preparing for it? Is MBA the only course?
My current tech stack is Python, Pyspark, Hive, SQL, ML, DL(specifically NLP based). I have already done MS in CS from IIT Kgp.
I am confused mainly cause the tech stack requirement is similar to my role in the company.

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?

Change my mind: the talk around things shifting to a 'new normal' is overblown. Society's collective conscience is too short-term to enact massive changes to things we are comfortable (e.g., global warming). Yes, it will take awhile for offices to open back up, flights to be full, etc., but within 1-2 years things willbe mostly back to what they are like now and this massive structural shift will have never materialized.

I’ve been practicing in both big law (many yrs ago) and now in-house for over 10 years. Quite often I struggle because I don’t find work fulfilling. I’ve been in industries that allegedly have greater cause (healthcare) but was eventually disappointed by the corporate bureaucracy and went to a cutting-edge tech company for intellectual stimulation. Still I struggle. Should I try public interest? Not that I don’t need the money but it’s hard to work when I am so detached and find it meaningless
