I joined EY as an SM right before Covid with 25+ years of experience, including 10 as a VP in industry (+12 years of Big4 experience before that). I think my base was about 250K in MCOL.
One piece of advice, which I would give you is to be very clear that you understand what the career path is, including the timing. If your goal is to become Partner/principal or MD, make that abundantly clear in the interview process as well as asking what the typical timeline would be for someone in your situation. When I spoke with the recruiter and asked what a typical timeline was, I was told about a year. This was a flat out lie and one of the reasons I left a few years later for a partner-level position elsewhere. I found EY to be very ignorant of whatever experience you brought from prior work. It seemed to be all about “yes, but what have you done at EY? Now get to the back of the line!”
Thank you for the input here. Helpful data point for base comp. And also the advice regarding the road to PPMD, which I haven’t addressed much yet. But will be prepared to do so.
Would target 250-300 base
Yes homegrown, no advanced degree
$1,000,000
Damn, already lowballing
Curious what the bonus is at SM level?
Have you made the move already?
Or at least looking?
