I took 4 weeks at birth. Then waited till my wife’s leave ran out and used my remaining 14 weeks. Saved a couple months worth of daycare costs.

That's smart

I used it to care for my child, but I know at least one couple that used their combined leave to travel Europe (in some states you can choose to take it anytime within 12 months of DOB).

like

If you can break it up into chunks, you should take a bit early (to enjoy the newborn stage) and then more later on (when you can be helpful). If I’m being honest, as a Dad, there isn’t that much help you can provide the first month or so because the Mom has to do all the feedings (unless you’re going straight to formula).

like

My husband is an attorney as well. He took 2 weeks at birth and then the remainder in a big chunk a few months later when I returned to work. We split the nights even from early on and it was a huge help for me. I think he valued the time at home too and it gave him a chance to decompress from billable hours for a little bit.

I’m on my second kid - doing the same thing each time - my wife’s leave ends mid-May. I’m going to start mine middle of May so we have an overlap and could “transition” effectively [and also get to hang out for a minute]. I’m taking all three months consecutive

like

We’re taking our three months simultaneously in one block. I know most dads can’t do much the first month or so baby-wise but you can definitely do A LOT (and by a lot, I mean everything else) for the wife. Im of the thought that if she’s doing so much for our baby, then I need to support her in every and any way I can to make this time a little easier on her.

Also I have been dreaming of the day I could take three uninterrupted months away from work lol

like

I got 10 weeks and used it all consecutively from birth. Had some friends break into chunks and they enjoyed that too. Think it depends on personal situation, how many times you want to ramp down/up, etc. Use it all though.

I took 6 weeks at birth. Couldn’t split it up.

I took two weeks to help my wife. I built a deck.

Trying to sleep and failing miserably.

Hi, I applied for a BFSI domain consultant position at TCS through Linkedin. Next day two people took my interview and said they are good to go with my profile. I might have one more tech round and HR will contact. After 4-5 days HR sent Ibegin link to create my profile and update details. Then it's been 3 weeks no other update. Whenever I contact the person who took my interview he keep saying its in process please wait. Is it normal procedure in TCS? How long usually takes.

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Anyone else have similar ideas?

Finally had my busy season cry after the staff told the team that he put in his two weeks. I'm crying because 1. We are so screwed and 2. why don't I have the courage to do something like that.
I'm turning 29 this year and usually a stone-hearted bitch but never failed to cry during busy seasons. I think it's time to get out.

I want to quit without a job lined up. This sucks so bad that I don't even have words for.

Moving on from Hotels (Hospitality)?

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, but it is very to commit to actually accept a new job offer since I really do love my job. My only complaint is, the pay vs workload is very small. I’m a manager now and my property offered me a director position… but the salary is still low! To make six figures, it’ll take another 5-6 years to grind it out.

Should I move on and go to a different industry? Opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance.

I’ve accepted an offer from a firm. Had to revise my joining date and the HR sent an email confirmation for the revised doj. I received an onboarding portal link from another HR, on their portal it’s mentioned my joining is in January which is even earlier than the joining date I received before on my OL which I got revised later on. The HR isn’t even reachable, they don’t reply to mails or pick calls. Don’t know what to do.

Which firms to meet with re lateral opportunities, which to avoid, etc. I’ve since spoken with a friend who has connections at other firms that could be a better fit. Do I bring in my recruiter or reach out through connections? Is using a recruiter beneficial to me, or am I better off on my own? How does their fee play in to what I could get as a package?
